Clinical Training Design: A Framework for Consistent, High-Value Clinical Education

Clinical education plays a strategic role in supporting healthcare professionals throughout the adoption of new products, technologies and therapeutic solutions, ensuring these innovations ultimately improve patient outcomes. In both MedTech and Pharma, effective training is essential to ensure safe, confident and sustained use of innovations. Yet many organisations still rely on training approaches that are inconsistent, product-centric or difficult to replicate across markets and teams.

This course provides a structured and scalable framework for designing clinical and scientific training that is consistent, high-value and aligned with the company’s purpose, product mission and therapeutic strategy — moving beyond product-centric approaches to support meaningful patient benefit.

Participants learn how to build training experiences that respond to real customer needs, support effective product or therapy adoption and strengthen long-term loyalty.

Through a practical and customer-focused approach, the course equips Training Managers, Clinical Trainers, Medical Affairs professionals and field-based commercial roles — such as Product Specialists, Key Account Managers and Sales Representatives who deliver training as part of their role — with the tools to design and/or deliver education that is impactful, compliant and replicable across different countries and markets.

Programme

Foundations of Clinical Training Framework

  • The strategic role of clinical and scientific education in MedTech and Pharma
  • Training as a value-creation moment, not a promotional activity
  • Aligning training with the product’s mission, intended use, therapeutic strategy and audience needs
  • Principles of consistent, compliant and replicable training design

Understanding Customer Needs

  • Needs-based training design: why it matters in both Pharma and MedTech
  • Using SPIN or similar techniques to explore clinical, operational and emotional needs
  • Mapping customer journeys and identifying training touchpoints
  • Translating needs into learning objectives and training pathways

Designing Effective and Replicable Clinical Education

  • Structuring a complete training framework
  • Creating a scalable deck: core content, optional modules, prompts and talking points
  • Ensuring consistency across trainers, markets and cross-functional teams
  • Balancing clinical/scientific value, product knowledge and customer support
  • Designing training that supports adoption, confidence and long-term use

Delivering High-Value Training Across Markets

  • Adapting training to different customer segments, geographies and regulatory contexts
  • Ensuring brand and message consistency while allowing local flexibility
  • Techniques for engaging clinicians, pharmacists, nurses and field teams
  • Measuring training effectiveness and customer impact

Practical Application

  • Case-based design exercise: building a training framework for a new product or therapy launch
  • Group work: creating a replicable training deck with structured content and prompts
  • Peer review and refinement
  • Final synthesis and next steps

This course is designed for professionals involved in clinical, scientific or product-related education, including:

  • Training Managers (MedTech & Pharma)
  • Clinical Trainers and Clinical Specialists
  • Medical Affairs and MSLs
  • Product Specialists and Field Application Specialists
  • Key Account Managers
  • Sales Representatives who provide training as part of their role
  • Product Managers supporting training strategy
  • Anyone responsible for designing or delivering customer education in healthcare

Participant experience

No advanced training-design experience is required; a basic understanding of adult learning principles is sufficient to fully benefit from the course.

The workshop is designed as an interactive learning experience, combining focused lectures with case-based discussions drawn from real Pharma and MedTech contexts.

Participants will work through guided group exercises to explore practical applications, using established templates and frameworks. Peer feedback and facilitated refinement sessions will support critical reflection and help translate insights into concrete, real-world approaches.
