Medical Writing: Improve your Writing & Reviewing Skills

The aim of this course is to improve medical writing skills & the quality of medical texts that you regularly prepare or review. Whether your text is an email, laboratory report, summary, regulatory submission or business proposal, learn to make your message effective.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Structuring medical texts, considering logic & text flow
  • Substantive & technical aspects of medical writing & editing
  • A brief review of key punctuation points affecting meaning & readability

Barbara  Grossman
Barbara Grossman Hawkeye Medical Limited

Barbara Grossman has a passion for proofreading, quality control, and education. She started Hawkeye Medical Limited, a medical writing and consultancy business, after working for a medical publishing company and then a contract research organisation, where she built up and managed its medical writing group. Barbara runs professional development training for companies and educational institutions. She has had many roles in the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA): workshop leader since 2001, Treasurer 1998–2005, member of the Education Committee 2010–2018, Education Officer 2014–2016. She was awarded an EMWA fellowship in 2005 and is currently EMWA President. In addition, Barbara is an Associate Editor of Medical Writing, EMWA’s journal.

This course is for anyone preparing or reviewing medical texts who needs to ensure that the intended message is conveyed effectively.

Participant experience

This course will benefit both those new to medical writing & those wishing to improve their medical writing skills, as well as those who regularly review medical texts.

The course will comprise lectures, practical hands-on exercises & text review sessions.

At your arrival you will find our Staff at the Welcome Desk to greet and make you feel welcome and as comfortable as possible, providing direction and all information about the meeting, seating, refreshments.

Refreshments
Coffee breaks and lunch will provide a pleasant moment of refreshment. Special care about the food quality, in particular to your dietary needs or preferences, from menus of local products and flavors to vegetarian dishes.

Teaching materials

All the information necessary for learning during the course is provided. It is recommended to bring your PC to take notes (even directly on the slides provided in PDF format). The environment is important to us and that's why we try to make this meeting an experience of environmental sustainability.

Confirmation of event admission will be given on receipt of payment. Invoice will be sent following receipt of payment. Please note that refunds (70% refund of the registration fee) will only be given if cancellation is received at least one week before the event date.
